Biochemist / Assay Development Scientist (100%)

FoRx Therapeutics is a privately held drug discovery company based in Basel, Switzerland. We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled Biochemist / Assay Development Scientist to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to become an integral part of an innovative and dynamic start-up company. 

 

Key responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Expression and purification of recombinant proteins
  • Develop and perform a diverse set of biochemical assays, in particular enzymatic (e.g. enzyme activity and kinetics) and substrate binding assays
  • Design biophysics-grade protein constructs and pilot / contribute to the optimization of purification protocols
  • Screen small molecule ligands on purified protein in microplate-based assay formats to drive the understanding of SAR relationships using manual and automated systems
  • Crystallize or work in close collaboration with crystallographers to crystallize protein-ligand complexes in support of structure-aided drug development
  • Organize experimental results to be shared with project teams; maintain clear experimental records using ELN (electronic lab notebook)

Qualifications:

 

  • Recent PhD degree in Biochemistry or similar (e.g. Structural Biology)
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in industry would be a strong plus
  • Profound experience and hands-on expertise in biochemical assays, enzyme kinetics and substrate binding assays
  • Experience in recombinant protein production using different expression systems, including construct design and optimization
  • Experience in using biophysical assays (SPR, ITC, DSF, etc.) for probing protein-ligand interactions
  • Expertise in X-ray protein crystallography would be an asset
  • First author publication in a relevant journal is required
  • Flexible, proactive, efficient, and able to work independently with a problem-solving attitude
  • Strong team player, high-energy and positive personality
  • Fluent in written and spoken English

We are currently looking to hire a

Scientist or Senior Scientist – Cell Biology (100%)

to join our motivated team based on the Novartis Campus in Basel.

 

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated scientist with a strong interest in cancer biology and the discovery of innovative anti-cancer drugs. S/he will be pivotal in the implementation and execution of the scientific validation and development plans for the company’s projects. In this role the candidate will take on responsibilities that demand hands-on experience as well as high-level technical skill and expertise in working with cell culture and standard cell/molecular biology techniques. S/he is expected to plan, implement and execute experiments independently according to agreed project objectives and to inject new ideas and technologies into the company’s drug discovery process. As a member of a dynamic cross-functional team, the (Senior) Scientist in Cell Biology will provide key contributions to the development and optimization of our cell-based assays, the identification of lead compounds and the validation of novel targets.

 

Key responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

 

§  Collaborate closely with the Head of Biology, the cell biology team and other relevant functions in the company

§  Develop, optimize and run a diverse set of cell-based assays ensuring high quality and reproducibility

§  Specifically, plan, set up and perform experiments to characterize (lead) compounds in cells allowing to establish structure-activity relationships (SAR) (e.g. potency, efficacy, selectivity, uptake and mechanism of action)

§  Inject new ideas and technologies into the company’s target validation and drug discovery process

§  Take responsibility for cell culture activities of various mammalian cell lines

§  Play a key role in identifying and validating new therapeutic targets in oncology

§  Take the lead or contribute to partnerships with CROs

§  Generate data, analyze scientific results, provide oral and written reports

§  Be able to plan out a work schedule yet remain flexible to changing priorities

§  Maintain all records concerning experimental planning, data, and analysis in an electronic laboratory notebook (ELN)

§  Ensure safe laboratory practices are followed, including the use and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials

§  Support and maintain efficient lab operations

 

Key Requirements:

 

§  PhD in Cell Biology, Cancer Biology, or similar

§  Minimum 2-4 years (Scientist) or 5-7 years (Senior Scientist) of postgraduate research experience with an in-depth knowledge of cancer biology and cell-based assays

§  Industrial experience in biotech/pharma with expertise in (cancer) drug discovery would be a strong asset, but equivalent from a lab-based academic research environment will also be considered

§  Experience with various methods to characterize small molecule modulators and assess target engagement in cells

§  Extensive experience with relevant experimental methods in cell and molecular biology, such as CRISPR, lentiviral transduction, RNAi, flow cytometry, microscopy, western blotting, immunofluorescence, qPCR, ELISA etc.

§  Experience in working with in vivo teams/mouse models of cancer (e.g. CROs) and ability to interpret and analyze in vitro and in vivo results would be a plus

§  First authorship in a relevant journal is required

§  Proficiency in MS Office package and data analysis programs, such as Excel, R (or Python), GraphPad prism

§  Fluent in written and spoken English

§  Excellent planning and organizing skills, ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and set priorities

§  Flexible and proactive individual, able to work independently with a problem-solving attitude

§  Strong team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, high-energy and positive personality

Research Associate – Cell Biology (100%) 

to join our motivated team based on the Novartis Campus in Basel.

 

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated individual with a strong interest in the discovery of innovative anti-cancer drugs. This role will require extensive hands-on experience as well as high-level technical skill and expertise in working with cell culture and standard cell biology / molecular techniques. As a member of a dynamic cross-functional team, the Research Associate will provide key contributions to the development and optimization of our cell-based assays, the identification of lead compounds and the validation of novel targets.

 

Key responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

Key Requirements:

  • BSc/MSc in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in an equivalent position is mandatory, at least two years within industry
  • Extensive experience with relevant experimental methods such as CRISPR, lentiviral transduction, RNAi, PCR, microscopy, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, ELISA etc.
  • Expertise in cell culture techniques, media, and reagents preparation
  • Experience with various methods to measure target engagement of small molecules in cells would be a strong asset
  • Proficiency in MS Office package and data analysis programs, such as Excel, R (or Python), GraphPad prism
  • Excellent planning and organizing skills, able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and set priorities
  • Flexible, proactive, efficient, and able to work independently with a problem-solving attitude
  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills, high-energy and positive personality
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
